Joseph Jung - Co-Founder/Director Sales and Marketing - 40+ years in golf industry

Joe is a Chicago native who began his career as a caddy at Lake Shore CC on Chicago’s north shore in the 1970’s.

The 1980’s brought experience in municipal golf for the Chicago Park District as well as collegiate golf at Northeastern Illinois University as a competitor in the 34th Annual NAIA National Golf Championship In 1985. By 1988, Joseph was managing one of six Strictly Golf retail stores in the Chicagoland area.

The 1990’s brought the Golf Shop Operations Manager position at Medinah CC in Medinah Illinois. In 1994, with the help of Hall of Famer Johnny Miller, Joseph joined Callaway Golf and began an eight year position as an outside sales rep for Callaway in Michigan and South Florida.

In 2002 Joseph left Callaway and returned to Chicago to join MacGregor Golf to help revive the 100 year old storied brand.

In 2008, Joseph joined EJL Custom Golf and became a Master Club Fitter and Master Club Builder. EJL would become Club Champion, the nations leader in custom fitting.

In 2014, Joseph accepted a position of National Sales Manager for Zero Friction in Oak Brook Illinois. In early 2018, Joseph became the Sales manager for Volvik USA.

In 2018, New Ground Golf was formed.

Lon Varchetto - Co-Founder/Director Sourcing - 45+ years in golf industry

Lon began in the golf industry in 1973 at Northwestern Golf Co. in Chicago and spent nearly 25 years there. His position was the Director of Purchasing/Global Sourcing and was a contributor to the company growth from $13MM to over $50MM. Lon gained extensive knowledge of golf club plant operations, manufacturing, inventory control, foundry operations and international import. He had an integral part in the process of component procurement as it transitioned from domestic to offshore from the mid-1980’s through the late 1990’s.

In 1997, Lon joined Lamkin Corporation and held the position of VP of International Operations until leaving in 2008. Initial responsibilities included being a lead member of the management team during the start-up a 70,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant in Guangzhou, China through to full operation. That plant became a primary source for Lamkin grips supplying them to the many club manufacturing and assembly companies. After start-up, Lon made quarterly trips to/from the factory in China to work with plant management to ensure smooth work flow and quality.

In 2011, Lon held the position of Director of Product Development for Zero Friction, a Chicago based golf accessory company. Lon created two product lines – cost effective quality golf grips and a high quality titanium driver and companion stainless steel fairway woods.

In 2018, New Ground Golf was formed.

Paul Zalatoris - Co-Founder/Director Finance - 30 years sporting goods industry

Paul spent 15 years at Wilson Sporting Goods Co. and held various corporate financial positions before taking on management roles within the Racquet Sports Division. Paul was Global Business Director of the $45MM tennis ball business and was responsible for leading the team to move production from company domestic factory to Thailand. This became the foundation for his experience in international business, product sourcing and logistics.

In 2003, Paul became U.S. General Manager for Tecnifibre, a Paris based tennis company.

In 2007, Paul joined Balle de Match as CFO and later that year became President/CEO.

In 2009, Paul started his own company, Sport Source International  which focused on sports apparel for the team high school and college markets. Sport Source continues providing team apparel today through team distributors.

In 2018, New Ground Golf was formed.
